An intellectual or developmental disability is not an illness, but rather a condition that causes some people to develop intellectually and socially at a slower rate than most other people. Such conditions cut through racial, ethnic, educational, social and economic backgrounds and can occur in any family.
It is estimated that one family out of ten in America will be directly affected by intellectual or developmental disabilities. And since our individuals never outgrow our services, they are with us for life, from newborns to senior citizens.
