Respite Care

The families of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are often under a great deal of stress – physical, emotional and economic. Sometimes they want a break in order to do errands, attend a special event, have time for themselves or need respite services for an overnight or a weekend trip. The Arc of Howard County’s Respite Care house provides a safe, fun and comfortable place for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities while their families are away.

The Respite Care house provides care for as little as a couple of hours or longer periods of time such as overnights, weekends and vacations. Respite care can also be provided during school breaks and for special requests.

  • Ages served are toddlers to aging adults
  • Costs are based on a sliding scale fee and private rate (see rates below)
  • Special activities planned throughout the year
  • Ladies Night Out – a popular event for registered young ladies

Due to COVID-19, we are not offering respite services at this time. For more information, contact Barbie Merkin at (410) 730-0638 ext. 370 or bmerkin@archoward.org.

To apply for Respite Services, please complete the application below and email it back to Barbie Merkin.
