Today’s Act of #COVID19Kindness goes out to Howard County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD). COAD’s Leila Mahlin heard about The Arc of Howard County‘s critical need for masks and has already donated 300 masks made by the amazing people in the Howard County Mask Makers Facebook group! COAD plans to continue donating masks supporting The Arc during the continued COVID-19 crisis. People are good…and generous!
Thank you once again to Feed Howard County for working with La Palapa Grill & Cantina in Ellicott City to provide 100 meals to staff and the people we support! Everyone loved the new version of “Taco Tuesday”! Thank you to Debra Reese from Feed Howard County and Leslie Amick, Event Coordinator at La Palapa Grill & Cantina for making this act of COVID-19 Kindness happen! Shout out to all of our fabulous volunteer delivery drivers Brenda Gavlin-Crowe, Anita Dempsey, Khyle Moone, Claire Ramirez-Schene and son Carlos! It means the world that the Community continues to recognize and support the work our Direct Support Professionals and Nurses are doing during this crisis!
Today, we celebrate the Project SEARCH of Howard County class of 2020! This morning, a virtual ceremony was held to celebrate the accomplishments of the interns who completed this school year long work program. All of these young people are now ready for paid employment! Maryland Department of Disabilities Secretary Carol Beatty gave the keynote address to the 2020 class and Howard County Executive Calvin Ball sent well wishes to the interns as well!

Imagine” living life…to the fullest. “Imagine,” a new video from The Arc of Howard County, features people with intellectual and developmental disabilities doing just that…living their best lives. The “Imagine” video was produced by Pam Long Photography featuring the vocal talents of Bach to Rock Fulton, MD‘s Carl Pfanstiehl. Thank you, Pam, Carl, and Bach to Rock! Let’s imagine the day when we can all be together again!
Today’s #COVID19Kindness shout goes to a group nicknamed “The Pineapple Express.” These women heard how challenging connection is for the people we support, made even more important by social distancing during the pandemic, and decided to raise money to donate 2 iPads! Thank you to this wonderful group who are sending out the #Challenge for others to do the same!
Gowns, safety gloves, face shields, masks, mask clips, and other PPE are in demand daily at The Arc of Howard County‘s 35 residential houses. Hand sanitizer goes fast these days. To keep up with demand, The Arc of Howard County reached out for help. Local distilleries stepped up. MISCellaneous Distillery and Sagamore Spirit came through with large quantities of hand sanitizer, while Barton 1792 Distillery donated alcohol for cleaning face shields, as well as hand sanitizer. Thank you, MISCellaneous Distillery, Sagamore Spirit, and Barton 1792 Distillery for supporting The Arc of Howard County! We could not do what we do without YOU!
Hearing that The Arc of Howard County urgently needed hand sanitizer, Senator Katie Fry Hester stepped up. Katie Fry Hester, Maryland Senate D9 reached out to a local distillery, which had converted to producing hand sanitizer. With donations from Western Ellicott City’s Woodmark Community to cover production costs, Senator Fry Hester teamed up with Patapsco Distilling Company to donate 30 gallons of hand sanitizer to The Arc of Howard County! Special shoutout to Woodmark Community members — Joe Love, Amy Curran Brewster, Victoria Budich, Robert McCormick, Nancy McAllister, Jennifer Speigel, Daphne R. Pallozzi, and Senator Katie Fry Hester — for making this donation possible!
