Team Embrace is a charity team that raises funds in support of The Arc of Howard County. Team members of all ages and experience levels train and participate in various endurance events including triathlons, 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, and marathons.
Team Embrace was started by Pete Della-Croce, an Arc Board Member and Ironman triathlete. Pete got involved with The Arc as a volunteer, seeking to give back to a charity whose mission it is to help people like his older brother live a life of acceptance and community. He worked his way up to serve on the Board of Directors and found himself on the Resource Development Committee, where he saw the opportunity to marry his love of endurance sport with his passion for service. The team began as Team Arc with three members and grew to 38 members, who raised $25,000 for The Arc in 2011.
In keeping with Team Embrace’s spirit of inclusivity and community, they also offer a support membership for those who may not be ready or able to participate as a competitor. Supporters have the opportunity to participate in team events by manning water stations at workouts, helping competitors set up for races, cheering loudly at races, and wearing their Team Embrace t-shirts. Support members of the team commit to raising $250 for The Arc of Howard County, and their efforts are also fully supported by experienced team staff.
