Donate Your Car

Fast and Friendly Car Donation Service

Is it time to finally let go of your old car? We know, you had a good run. You got far more mileage out of it than you thought you would. It was a good car right up until the end. But now the necessary repairs to get it back on the road just don’t make financial sense and it’s not worth nearly as much as you thought it might be as a trade-in.

It’s time.

Don’t worry. Your old car is still valuable…in fact, it’s worth the world to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You see, The Arc can take your old car as a donation and turn it into cash to directly help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with such needs as employment, education, housing and advocacy to ensure they are treated with dignity and respect.

Your old car…or boat…or motorcycle can benefit The Arc of Howard County to promote and protect the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they can live, learn, work and play as valued and contributing members of their communities.

We don’t care if your old car has some blemishes, a little rust, a dead battery or worse. Our Car Donation Program can take your donation and turn it into cash at auction. And the proceeds can be put to good use right in your community. Plus, you get a tax break!

Vehicle donations made to The Arc are tax deductible. Our organization has been designated by the IRS as a 501c (3) charity. The best practice is to consult with a tax professional on how to maximize your tax deduction since every car donation and tax situation is unique. In general, the IRS limits the tax deduction to the gross proceeds from the sale of the car, truck, or other vehicle. Charitable contributions must be itemized on Schedule A of Form 1040 to qualify. If the gross proceeds exceed $500, Form 1098C “Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes” and Form 8283 “Non Cash Charitable Contributions“, must also be completed and attached. Forms 1098C and 8283 are required to be provided to the donor within 30 days of the sale of the vehicle.
To learn more on what the donors’ responsibilities are prior to making a car donation, please consult the Donors Guide to Vehicle Donations found in IRS Publication 4303. The file may be read with Adobe Reader.
