Our Residential support Services make it possible for people with cognitive and developmental disabilities to live independently in a variety of settings. Many people choose to live with residential staff support and roommates. Others live on their own with support services from The Arc and some people choose to buy their own homes with our guidance and help. Currently we are supporting 106 people in 53 different homes throughout Howard County. About 150 employees of The Arc provide direct care and other residential support services. The people we support range from those with drivers licenses who hold competitive jobs to individuals who are very medically fragile and require constant nursing care.
On a daily basis, the people we support enjoy the pleasures of living in the community---there is joy in meeting friends on the street, at the grocery store and the Mall, in the work place, at soccer games and neighborhood celebrations.
The Arc supports full community life for children and adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities, and we are all the richer because of it.
